Congratulations Mark Zuckerberg! The founder of Facebook will be a father |
On Friday, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder of Facebook, revealed that he and his wife Priscilla Chan are expecting a daughter, a pregnancy they had eagerly anticipated after experiencing three miscarriages.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Zuckerberg expressed his excitement about the pregnancy, stating that they are now past the stage where the risk of loss is minimal. This news comes as a significant development for the couple, particularly given their previous challenges.
Their daughter will inherit Facebook, a company valued at approximately $275 billion, as reported by CNNMoney this month. Zuckerberg, ranked as the ninth wealthiest individual globally with a fortune of $41.7 billion according to Bloomberg, shared this news along with opening up about their past experiences with miscarriages.
"We've been trying to start a family for a couple of years and unfortunately faced three miscarriages in the process," Zuckerberg revealed. The emotional rollercoaster of hope followed by loss deeply affected them, as they began envisioning their child's future only to have those dreams shattered.
Discussing miscarriages is often taboo due to fear of isolation or self-blame, but Zuckerberg felt compelled to share their journey in the hope of supporting others facing similar challenges.
"Cilla and our daughter are both healthy," he reassured, adding a lighthearted note about their ultrasound experience. With their daughter already displaying her personality by giving the "like" sign during the ultrasound, Zuckerberg remains optimistic about their family's future.
In addition to this personal news, Facebook is actively seeking to expand its platform, particularly in e-commerce, identifying it as a promising avenue for growth.
